TL DR:
Coopers kinda a jerk right now and people kinda think you shouldn't date a jerk.
---
I don't think it's hate.
it's more:
'Despite the likely traumatic and difficult childhood he has had which is a valid factor, Cooper has chosen many many years after knowing andy to let it slip'
I sympathise for Cooper. I understand that he's not just evil incarnate and douchbagerytown for no reason. No one really is unless they're really gone down mental avenue.
The problem, is that they are perplexingly still friends. Despite the earliest thing we are shown from these two is that they actively dislike each other enough to throw insults on a 'constant' basis, we are led to believe that Cooper has been harboring feelings for Andy for some time. We also know that in his youth, and Andy wanted to be friends with Cooper. Out of friendship, out of secret crush, we can't say at the moment (unless it's revealed in the comic later). But they do NOT have a healthy relationship. At all. For most people, they would consider that their chances and ships have already sailed, as most people would not 'put up' with Cooper. People don't have time to be messed around. Some do, but a lot don't. He is someone that you would need to put the extra mile into getting to know, before you get to 'the good stuff'.
Now take Emery.
Emery, has shown to be the exact opposite of what Cooper is. He's direct about his intentions, which may not actually be romantic mind you, which could be the evneutally plot of this comic (Old school friend tries to make up. new possible love intrest is having issues with if he wants to be in a relationship or not). He's shown to be affectionate, warm and patient. He cares about his ex-wife, acknowledges that their breakup was partially his fault and maintains responsibility of his children after breakup. This is also attributed to the fact that Emery is older, has made mistakes and is trying to learn from them while exploring a part of his life he never did before, properly. His first encounter with Andy was wine and dined, cooked, and as far as lovers go he was EXTREMELY patient with Andy, motivating and confirming that he doesn't care about typical roles and all that stuff.
Of the two, Emery has shown to be just...just better boyfriend material, in general. You literally cannot make the argument that Cooper has treated Andy, as a person, better than Emery has treated him over the course of the main comic. Even if Emery is just in it for the sex and nothing more, the courtesies are there.
My personal hope, is that Andy helps Cooper 'get over his gay issue' instead of 'getting with you sets me free to be who I am' while andy himself continues to discover what he wants in life. They're both 'new to this' and you can grow as a character without getting some kinda fairytale 'we fell in love' ending. Even emery is "new to this' in a sense. He's in the perfect situation to not be a jealous, possesive grr grr man who will fite for his pup's honor. He could share his experiance with Cooper, they could get some kind of understanding together in an interesting and unique way.

I'll admit, I'm not sure I want Andy/Cooper, but I'm not sure I want Cooper/Chelsea either. He hasn't been great to her, and depending on how serious they're suppose to be...eh. I'd also just like to see more bisexual characters end up with other men instead of women, because that just kinda rubs me the wrong way. >.>
Your comment before on bierasure is totally valid so now I'm confused as to why you don't like bi people ending up with women...? (Not that I want Chelsea and cooper to stay together) like that's bierasure in itself, not wanting to see bisexual guys choosing women over men. Maybe this just is a stickler for me because I am a straight lady and was dating a bi guy for two years. It's like hey, the fandom already gets an astronomical amount of m/m pairings... trying to push more art of that of bi characters only being with same sex pairings seems kinda exactly like the wrong thing to be wanting when promoting acceptance of bisexuality...
Oh, in furry it's probably actually okay, I just like Cooper a lot. XP
It just feels like most bi characters outside of the fandom are 'nominally' bi because they tend to end up with women still. But then again, males in relationships with other males are some of the least represented couples in media, and they're almost always camp gay to some degree. I just want representation that MATTERS. And Coop to get some booty. XD

I feel like saying a bi man being with a woman not "mattering" for representation is... a pretty shitty way to look at it. The whole point of bi acceptance is to embrace that these people can like both sexes and be attracted to both but still be in a happy, healthy relationshi like any other couple. Saying it only matters if they embrace the same sex coupling definitely seems hypocritical when wanting a more acceptable view of bi. It's kinda crappy to say "I support bi rights but only if the bi guys are getting together with guys!"
I understand what you're saying. In terms of storytelling, bisexual characters are often there for shock value or as walking jokes machines. When it's a female character, it's to appeal to the male audience without alienating them (i.e. "Hey guys! You, too, can have that amazing threesome! Wink wink!"). When it's a male character, it's often to make fun of male-male relationships, since the mostly straight male audience tends to think that way in the first place. You just have a desire to see more variety, not put down the other option.
It's also important to keep in mind that this is a gay comic. Taking that into consideration, as well as the direction the story has been going down, it seems unlikely that Cooper will end up with Chelsea. It's possible, but it would feel really weird, and it wouldn't lend itself much to Cooper's evolution as a character. He wouldn't really be going anywhere, but just end up staying at the point where he began.

Yeah, that's also a thing. Nothing against Jackaloo, but it'd take a LOT of VERY good story writing to make me not feel jipped at Cooper still being with Chelsea, because it'd mean despite whatever changes he goes through, he's still where he was in some respects. Presuming they're even anything serious right now anyway.
I absolutely want to see more variety, as you say. Even furry isn't very nuanced about bisexual characters.

Emery is only interested in sex, as far as I see it. People can act all super nice when it benefits them. I've known many like that. They will act just like Emery is, in order to take advantage of people. Cooper might be a jerk, but he is honest about being a jerk. He doesn't hide his bad qualities in order to be more well liked or to get what he wants.
Just the fact that Emery hired Andy specifically to take advantage of him, which is incredibly unethical, is enough of a reason for me not to like him. I love his design, and the sex scenes are great, but I do not like the actual character. A lot would have to happen in order for me to like him for who he is. Aside from the beginning, he has been portrayed as way too "perfect," and that always means something. Usually something bad. Something which is already being hinted at, or so it would seem.
TL;DR: Cooper is a decent person, wrapped in a jerkass facade, due to past trauma (we know this because Andy has made it known to the reader, as well as what Summer's Gone tells us). Emery is an unethical person, wrapped in a friendly facade, for reasons we can only guess at (unlike Cooper, we have been given next to no backstory on Emery, which makes him even more suspicious).

*shrugs*
He's still a nicer person. I won't deny that he might end up being a manipulative for sex. Time will tell that. He could have been lying and all those things. I don't think he's been portrayed as being too perfect though. The very fact that emery nervously shoved Andy under a desk because his ex (or possible current wife if he was lying) was coming in shows he's atleast got hangups. And I won't deny that there are clues to say that he's more oportunist than 'genuine'. 'Assuming' a character is going to become a power sex maniac just because 'they are nice and have their shit together'. Again, not saying it won't happen becauase were' only in season 1 of the apparent 4s and unforuantely for me the only real way we could build on drama for this long would indeed mean emery is going to have 'problems' down the line. It's a nice thing to note that if it's just sex, then that doesn't have to be a drama. People are adults about things sometimes believe it or not and can say "Hey Andy
Be that as it may, I don't like "He's a nice person pretending to be a jackass" character's for reasons I stated above. It's the opposite side of the coin which isn't 'better'.
You know what?
Poor Andy. His current choices romantic inclinations
"Some douche who thinks he's hot but has issues out the butt and somehow hasn't gotten over those issues for a very long time)
or "Some nice guy who opened a lot of oportunities for him, gave him a lot of experience and has just been generally nice with him on top of being a really good first introduction to first ghey sex. Though he may ble a manupulative possesive fraud somewhere down the line becuase this is a furry comic so people can't be nice for nice's sake" and if it does happen all the cooper fans are gonna be like I TOLD YEW SO YEWS ALL PESUNTS
We're in a really big 'time will tell' state of the comic. the "oh no things are gonna get dramatic' part. All the cutsie happy things are gonna come to a screeching halt and I'm either going to be sitting here with egg on my face or clutching my pearls why things gotta be like dis, hoping and praying it stops.

I personally don't like the line of thinking that it is okay for someone to use someone else for sex so long as they're nice about it. It's a terrible, awful, sleazy thing to do. There's a special place in hell for such individuals. Besides, it's obvious that Andy wants something more than that, and Emery was suspiciously avoidant when it comes to being seen with him in public.
And yes, this is a comic, but it is written to be much more realistic than a lot of others out there, so it makes sense to approach it that way. It isn't written for shock value, but to get certain points across.
As for assuming? It's called being "genre savvy." While it's possible that the story may take a different direction, there is a reason why certain tropes exist: It's because they work well. When a story goes down a road that is completely out of left field, it can end up feeling really 'off,' as if everything was building toward a certain conclusion, then it was suddenly all thrown away.
The field of literary criticism, especially of the psychoanalytic variety, exists in order to find commonalities across all different types of storytelling. Certain issues exist within the human condition, and a good story like The Internship (and its side comics) exist to highlight specific ones. While it is possible that Emery may end up just being a catalyst of sorts (someone who creates a bad or subpar situation that eventually leads the character(s) down a better road), as opposed to an antagonist, I don't see him as relationship material (the destination). Everything has so far focused very much on the evolution and highs & lows of Andy and Cooper's relationship (as friendship or otherwise), and especially Cooper as a character. I doubt that focus was given to these aspects of the story for no reason at all.

TL'DR:
Time will tell. You will most likely be right and I'll be a bit huffy about it but I'd like to hope that you're wrong since I personally feel that would be a cute direction.
---
I didn't say its ok or 'the right choice' for Andy to be used for sex Or that it's acceptable. Because it isn't. There's an awful lot of time, effort and general courtesy Emery has put into Andy. At no point did Emery threaten Andy with any of the typical sleezy boss tope lines of "If you don't suck my dick you're fired boi". He gets touchy feely
Regarding his avoidance of the party. I went back and read what he said just to make sure I'm not too biased. He says:
"Oh I don't think that's going to work out. I have the girls for new years while their mother spends it in Wine Country." Children, I remind you.
he also says "Plus well...it probably won't look right for an old guy like me hanging out with a bunch of twenty somethings...especially as your employer"
Those are two very valid arguments as to why you cannot go to a new years party with your employee. He could be lying. But if you told me that I'd say "Oh right, yeah, you have a life too." Imagine you showed up with your boss to your friends new years party. WITH HIS KIDS. Your friends would probably be ok with it but folks would be judging. Emery would be the odd one out. Regarding his employment, Emery proposes a temporary position and asked Andy to consider it without attaching string should that be his wish. It's arguably better to tell someone "Look I think your kinda hot. I'm offering you a job but would also like to do other things outside of job related things" despite how legal it may or may not be. up front instead of eventually springing it on them in the middle of the job coming with a 'this is the only reason I hired you slut'
I don't think anyone would complain if the eventual drama of this comic is not related to Emery being manipulative and Cooper being the underdog who wins Andy over. That's a direction, sure, and it would still be a very interesting story. But it doesn't have to be the trope the writer uses. There are a lot of ways to make a story interesting. Someone sitting in the corner like GOSH DARN EMERYS ACTUALLY A NICE GUY. Because you know what's neat? Nice guys that are actually nice and have real believable reasons for doing what they do as they try and pick up the pieces of a life that is no longer viable to them anymore instead of being cloak and dagger expert waiting to be exposed, as per da trope.
We've gotten a lot of backstory with Cooper and Andy, because they've known each other for ages. Without context, Cooper is just a git and it would be increasingly perplexing as to why Andy puts up with Cooper for all these many years as a friend. It's no fun to have "just a git' as a character for a long time. Readers will want to know more. And perhaps we'll get some backstory on Emery. Just because we don't have it now doesn't mean it won't materialize in the near future. Perhaps it won't be necessary and Jack will find a nice way for Jack to do it without the need of a side comic. Emery doesn't have any history with Emery beyond his initial appearance so it wouldn't make as much sense or have hte same impact as Cooper and Andy's childhood.
And again, don't get me wrong. I'm all for Cooper to learn how to embrace his gay and stop being a dick factory. I'm actually a bit of a sucker for redemption and stuff like that. The point I liked ot highlight is that he doesn't need to start dating Andy for this to be validated in any way. Having 'a very important that helped me find who I am in the world." is also something that happens in real life, you know. You crushed on them for all your life, they were the reason you had dem thoughts. You may not end up with them, but they were key in teaching it to you. Maybe they're still your pal and you go to the gay clubs every so often to stalk dudes to hook you up with.
But i'll relent and say that you will most likely be correct. Cause thats how stories go. Right? Someone has to be more traitorous than a douche so that the douche can rise up and show his true feelings.
All I hope, is that Emery doesn't become a tool. I want each and every character of this story to be as argubly happy in outcome as possible.
I want Andy to find a boyfriend he's happy with.
I want cooper to stop being a douche and get over whatver he needs to get over
I want Emery to continue being a sweetheart and not 180 us.
But I likely won't get my wish XD someone will have to take a fall.
Time will tell. You will most likely be right and I'll be a bit huffy about it but I'd like to hope that you're wrong since I personally feel that would be a cute direction.

The thing is that I just don't trust Emery. Like I said, he is too "perfect." The one or two things he has done that are outright questionable, he has had excuses and reasons for which the reader would naturally believe and take at face value. One has to look beyond that in order to find the flaws in his character. And they are definitely there.
When he refuses to go to the party with Andy, he seems way too nervous. I don't believe that what he's saying is true, or it may be a half-truth. It's possible he even is telling the truth, but I see absolutely no reason to trust him at all. Because it all comes back to:
The fact he still chose Andy for the job because sex. It doesn't matter to me if he made this known up front. We see him look at Andy's bulge, then we see him offering Andy the job. Because he wants someone who will be his piece on the side. It very much comes off as Emery going to that college event simply to find someone who was easily exploited. That isn't being a sweetheart. It's being a predator. He is in a position of power over Andy because he has something that Andy desperate wants, and arguably needs, in order to succeed. And he uses that as leverage to get what he wants, which is Andy's body. Anyone who is willing to do that is a horrible person in my eyes. They'd have to go through hell and back in order to redeem themselves. At this part of the story, there isn't anything that could possibly change my mind about him.
You are right that we could see backstory on Emery. I wouldn't be surprised if we do, since he is a major player in the story. However, so far, he definitely takes a backseat to Cooper in terms of total "screentime," which makes him also feel less important. I'm also not sure if you're a Patreon supporter (if not, you should be~), and I forget what page Jackaloo is up to on here (I'd have to check), so I won't go into details. I just see some stuff happening that makes me further question Emery. My hunch may be completely wrong, though. We'll have to see! That is one thing that makes a story fun: When it keeps you guessing and trying to pick things apart in order to find the truth. Anything that gets me that invested is pretty great in my book.

*shrugs*
I'm gonnna stop. Cause you've got your mind set and i'm not going to influence you more.
Feel free to continue distrusting Emery. You have some grounds and clearly more information than I do. I do feel you're laying Emery's position a bit thicker than the author himself as but that our opinions.
Artist's only one man. Can only draw so much at once etc.
Cheers on that

Hmm? No, I don't at all think I know more than Jackaloo does, not at all. It's just a hunch that I have, that's all. I can get rather caught up in my feelings about Emery, since he reminds me of bad people I've known, and of bad things I've experienced in my life due to said people. Just like how I can empathize with Cooper and Andy in various ways. That's all. I'm an extremely passionate person by nature, and this story really brings that out in me. It looks like it does that for a lot of people, which is great! It means Jackaloo is doing an insanely good job.
We are going to have our own opinions for our own reasons, and that's okay. I just wasn't sure if you were understanding where I was coming from. I admittedly can have a difficult time understanding people via text. It's frustrating, but I'd rather repeat myself a few times, or ask a question more than once, than continue a conversation while being confused as to what is going on.
Only other thing I meant is that it would be great to see you on his Patreon, if you aren't there already. We all have some great conversations there, too, and there is lots of bonus content! Jackaloo relies on the support of fans in order to keep things going, and he even donates a portion to charity. It's not just a group of fans, either, but also a nice community, too. :3

*points up and notes that you have more information than I do, not jack. I noted that he can only draw so much at one time so splooging us with all content to support everyone theories *
Don't mind me, i'm just a little bitter.
My argument was never really that Emery should be with Andy or Cooper shouldn't be given a chance.
it was more than cooper, to most people, wouldn't really get the amount of chances Andy has likely given him. In the real world. Where being an ass for a long time doesn't cut it. Special people with a lot of patience and good intentions (like Andy) are the only people who will deal with these kind of people with the relationship they seem to have. The shear amount of dissapointment Andy has had to go through for them to be at odds with each other when the comic STARTS.
That's going purely with what we've seen in the comic thus far, on here.
I'm just worried about Emery. I'm worried about what character he's going to become in this story.
That's basically all. You've gone to lengths to label him as this stories potential antagonist and point of contention.
And while that's certainly a route and the most likely. Emery Loses.
And the opposite is true as well,
What if Cooper and Andy get together, as per a chunk of the fanbase's whim,
And Emery, instead of going megalomania, is just there like "Oh...oh ok...I was kinda getting attached to you...". He loses here too
Because literature says so.
It will break my heart, If we find out that Emery has been as genuine as possible, starts develops feelings for Andy.
And Andy instead goes with his childhood sweetheart

I’m sorry that I’ve had a difficult time understanding you. Like I said, I am not very good with general socializing unless I know someone really well or the topic is some sort of academic or philosophical one. I’m too much of a geek. :<
In any case, it’s impossible for everyone to like all the same things. Just like you worry about Emery, I worry about Cooper. I remember a time when Cooper wasn’t always this popular. The more we have seen of his backstory, the more people have become understanding of him. Plenty of people do still like Emery, so you aren’t alone. And it does upset me just as much that many of those people are just as much against Cooper for various reasons.
But, since a lot of people do like Cooper when knowing his backstory, I would wager that said people are more the type to be patient and understanding with someone who is emotionally suffering inside. In my experience, those people tend to really begin to shine once someone gives them a real chance and doesn’t just toss them aside. Still... we only have our own personal experiences to draw from and cannot know everything about the world, so it is difficult to say just what is truly most common out there. Regardless, Andy is Andy, not your typical individual.
Also, let’s not forget that new characters are entering the story. Regardless of who ends up with Andy, there may still be someone for the other. Hell, for all we know, Andy could end up with a new character, leaving Cooper and Emery to somehow fall in love through interesting and unforeseen happenstance (as an example of one other possibility). There are almost three whole volumes to go, not including side comics and such, so plenty of room for all sorts of character and relationship development. Regardless of our personal preferences, who knows what could actually end up happening, right? No reason to worry just yet. :3

I'd also like to add that one reason why I love this story so much is because all of the characters are "broken" in some way. They're all flawed, have all made mistakes, and are all morally gray. I'm in no way saying that Cooper is perfect, but I definitely see him as the better option (so far!). He has a history with Andy, which is made clear to have not been all bad. Chelsea mentions several times that Andy and Cooper were good friends who would butt heads from time to time, and end up in prolonged arguments, only to make up afterward. She's also said that Cooper has some really good qualities. There is likely a reason why we are being told these things in a way that is easy to forget, while not being shown them directly. It makes me go "hmm," just like it does when I look at how Emery has been around 90/10 in the ratio of flattering versus unflattering representation.
And while I totally get the Daddy kink (oh, believe me, I do~), that isn't enough for me to fall in love with a character. I also look at the character, himself. Emery is a user. The very fact that he is older means it is unlikely for him to change. Not impossible, but unlikely. People become further set in their ways as they proceed through life. The younger someone is, the more malleable they tend to be. I see a lot of hope and potential for Cooper to grow and change for the better. Emery already has grown and changed (for instance, figuring out his sexuality, and what relationships mean to him), and I have to question if it was truly for the better. Cooper is in a similar position as Emery was years ago, but has the potential to figure this out earlier in life, and therefore head down a much better road: That of being a more genuine individual who is looking for a lifelong relationship.
At the end of the day, I simply see Cooper as a much better choice, and a much better match for Andy overall. Like everything, however, this has to do with what I personally find important in life. It's why we all (all people) take different stances on pretty much everything, because we all have different opinions on life, relationships, and everything. After all of my time in this world, I've figured out what is most important to me, and that is going to be reflected in my preferences in regard to the philosophical and ethical questions posed by the behavior of characters such as these.

Yeah Cooper is a pretty obvious guy here, he needs him but once his friends start making fun of him he'll cave to peer pressure and be a jerk again. I've seen his type before, someone whose terrified to admit his real feelings but considers reputation the forefront of who he is. Makes me feel sorry for him a little but not by much.
